Watch Listen B-Team Series: Journey with Jesus Current Message Sunday, March 2, 2025 | Luke 5:1-11 Nick Barrett Associate Pastor of Congregational Life But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!” For amazement had seized him and all his companions because of the catch of fish which they had taken; and likewise also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not fear; from now on you will be catching people.” When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him. James 5:16-18 Christ is calling B-team people— fisherman, not the religious elites, or the Pharisees, not those who you’d expect… Fishermen who don’t even quite fully understand who the Messiah is. To follow Christ is not about competence, as we saw in the call of the disciples. It is really about the heart of contrition and confession. It is not about fear or shame. It is actually about fascination with the One who stands before us and calls us— transcendence in flesh — calling you to leave, and to go, and to become something different. It is not about your convenience. It is about your availability. Are you available?”
