Introducing the Love in Action!

The purpose of the Love in Action is formed out of the heart of Luke 10 where Jesus sends out the 72 and further delineates how to love our neighbor in word and deed, he commissions his followers to “Go and do likewise.”

We encourage small groups, missional communities, Adult Fellowships and individuals of LAC to embody love by giving their time to meet a specific need (with priority given) to our Local Partner organizations. Our partner organizations are primarily Stars, Door of Hope, Elizabeth House, Hoving Home, Testimony Ministries and Obria Medical Clinics.) LAC participants would identify a need that they are able to meet (Ex: Graduation party for Door of Hope grad, Event supplies at Harambee outreach, Devotion and Donuts at Hoving Home, etc.).

The group/individual would request funds from Missional Outreach/Local Partners budget up to the amount of $5,000 and be approved in advance for use of those funds for their ministry opportunity. The Love in Action removes the financial burden and provides the cost for the materials needed.

Entering into the service opportunities with a mindset of mutual transformation, we find all involved to be inspired and blessed. Groups can easily invite non-believers to do service in the community as an on-ramp for LAC invitation and pre-evangelism. The partner organizations are blessed by both the participation and the resources. Church members are inspired and encouraged by the direct outreach of our para-church partners. Win on every level!

The First CommissionGrant

The First Commission Initiative is a movement designed to build missiological bridges between Lake Avenue Church and the diverse communities in our neighborhood. Rooted in Jesus’ First Commission—"Come and See" (John 1:46)—this initiative seeks to fulfill His Final Commission—"Go and Tell" (Matthew 28:19). Our ultimate goal is to introduce Christ to our neighbors of other faiths through authentic friendships, meaningful dialogue, and gracious hospitality.

We invite LAC members and core discipleship groups to develop outreach and evangelism projects that embody the spirit of the First Commission. We encourage collaboration with Christian not-for-profit organizations to maximize impact. Eligible individuals or groups may apply for grants of up to $5,000 by completing the application form.

Sample Projects:

  • Community Dinners for Dialogue – Hosting interfaith meals to foster conversations about faith and build relationships with neighbors from different backgrounds.
  • Alpha Course in Your Neighborhood – Facilitating an Alpha Course in your house or local facilities to introduce your neighbors to the foundations of the Christian faith.
  • Neighborhood Service Projects – Mobilizing volunteers to serve in local schools, shelters, or food pantries while intentionally building relationships and sharing the love of Christ.

If you or your group have a project idea that aligns with the First Commission vision, we encourage you to apply for funding and join us in making Christ known in our neighborhood and beyond.
